EEUU: Empezamos semana 42, de las peores del año

Fuente: Ryan Detrick

The Crash of 1987 happened 27 years ago today.  In the end, the S&P 500 (SPX) dropped -20.47% for the largest one day drop ever.  Here are the largest one-day drops since 1970.  Interestingly, five of the seven all happened in October.

This week is the 42nd week of the year.  Going back to 1950, this is one of the worst weeks of the year.

Now remember, the crash of 1987 also took place during the 42 week of the year.  The SPX finished down -12.20% that week.
Here’s where things get interesting.  October 20 is the second worst day to buy and hold for a week since 1950.  Only September 19 is a worse day to buy and hold for a week.  Take note, this is buying the close and holding for five trading days.

I continue to think a major low will take place during the second half of October, but seasonality would say it might not quite happen this week.

Here’s a chart I’ve been sharing since September to show a template for what could happen.  So far, so good.
